Q: How long does it take to build a mural?
A: From start to finish about three weeks.
Q: Can I do a Mural?
A: Any non-profit organization (school group, service organizations, youth groups, etc.) can do a mural.
Q: How many grapes do you use?
A: 8,000 to 10,000 grapes are used per mural
Q: How do you make the grapes shiny?
A: We use vegetable oil to make them shine and sometimes we add glitter.
Q: Are the grapes real?
A: Yes, the rules allow only 10% foreign material included in the mural; the rest must be real grapes.
Q: What happens to the mural when the Festival is over?
A: Because the murals are perishable they are disposed of.
Q: Are there prizes for building a grape mural?
A: Depending on the size of mural you can win from $200 up to $2,000.
Q: Why don't the grapes spoil?
A: We leave a tiny piece of stem (the bellybutton) on the grape.
Q: What are the white grapes?
A: They are not fake, they are not Jordan almonds, they are grapes that have been painted.
Q: What supplies do I need?
A: Celetex board, 2' X 4' plywood boards, spray paint, rubber cement, foil, cardboard strips, grapes, scissors.
Q: Where do the grapes come from?
A: Many area grape growers are willing to donate the grapes.
