The National Summer Steamup is a group of miniature railroad hobbyists. We are in our 26th year and meet every summer in central California. Our locomotives operate on live steam with a track gauge of 1-3/4” or 45mm.
The National Summer Steamup 2022 is in the second year at our home in Lodi California. The Lodi Grape Festival has welcomed us with their gorgeous 20,000 square foot venue. All the coordination is coming together and this promises to be another great steamup event. The steamup organizers have gathered at least six layouts, 12 total loops for the event. The Layouts include:
* The Triple R/Tom King layout, in its fourth year, is all-aluminum, 45-feet by 27-feet with 11 foot radius curves. The very generous donations of the late Tom King of Llagas Creek Railway and Triple R Services of Mount Holly NJ, made this layout possible.
*The Pacific Coast Live Steamers layout, 38-feet by 24-feet has 10 foot radius curves and on loop of dual-gauge 45mm/32mm.The PCLS layout was designed and built by Kevin O'Connor and Paul Brink. The Steam Events group now manage the layout.
*The Paso Robles layout, built by local steamers from the area, was acquired through donations in 2003.The Paso Robles is a massive 64-feet by 34-feet track with 15 foot radius curves and several steaming sidings.
*“The Little Brown Track”, a nice little 8 feet by 16 feet layout graciously donated by Pat Dixon and family in 2021.The “LBT” features a dual gauge loop and a 45mm loop with a 4-foot radius.
Additionally, at least two of our fellow live steamers have agreed to bring their personal layout.
Steaming hours are from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m.We are also including clinics Thursday through Saturday, as well as the swap table.Saturday is also the presentation of the Ron Brown Memorial Enthusiasm Award. The Ron Brown award and is given to the individual who best exemplifies a basic tenant of the hobby:to have fun running steam trains.
